Overview

Neuroscience and Neurological Diseases

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Johnson, Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. The focus of the research is idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, a neurological disorder of aging that is characterized by ventricular enlargement, gait difficulty, incontinence and dementia. The laboratory also has a robust research program on the genomics and cell biology of brain tumors.



Responsibilities

The successful candidate will enjoy excellent training opportunities in a highly collaborative and diverse scientific research environment at UMass Chan and will have exposure to a wide array of state-of-the-art technologies in molecular biology, cellular biology, imaging (MRI, microscopy, etc.), chemistry, genomics, genetics, gene therapy and transgenic animal models.



Qualifications

Qualifications

Candidates should have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, a strong background in neuroscience or related disciplines, and outstanding research performance as indicated by peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals. Experimental and analytical skills in cell biology, molecular biology, microscopy, and animal husbandry are desirable. The successful candidate will be able to work as a member of an integrated team as well as independently.
