Purpose of the Job

The SBA Senior Loan Closing Specialist is responsible for finalizing funding for small businesses through the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan program. The SBA Senior Loan Closing Specialist ensures a smooth and compliant closing process by handling all the essential tasks from loan approval to disbursement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and meticulously reviews all closing documents for SBA loans, guaranteeing accuracy and adherence to both bank policies and SBA regulations. This includes loan agreements, security documents, and various disclosures.
  • Acts as the central point of contact, effectively communicating with borrowers, lenders, loan officers, attorneys, and other parties involved in the closing. You'll keep everyone informed and ensure they understand their roles and deadlines.
  • Verifies borrower information and meticulously ensure the bank's liens on collateral are properly filed and secured according to SBA guidelines. This may involve title searches, UCC filings, and other verifications.
  • Oversees the entire SBA loan closing process, from gathering and verifying all necessary documentation to scheduling and conducting the closing itself. This involves ensuring all requirements are met for a smooth and timely closing.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of various SBA loan programs, particularly those offered by your bank (e.g., 7(a), 504). This knowledge is crucial for identifying program-specific requirements and ensuring adherence to SBA regulations.
  • Stays up-to-date on and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements related to SBA loans, including those set by the bank and the SBA itself.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses any potential issues that may arise during the closing process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of SBA loan programs, particularly those offered by your bank.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge and understanding of SBA loan closing requirements with a comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Must have an excellent understanding of title reports, lien searches, lease documentation, equity injection, and acquisition documentation
  • Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and loan processing software (e.g., Loan origination systems like NCino, AFSVision).
  • Must possess excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong interpersonal abilities to engage professionally with diverse stakeholders
  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the credit union
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, adept at managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, along with being resourceful, well-organized, and demonstrating a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must be able to participate in all required SBA and Bank compliance training (including but not limited to NAGGL, Bank Secrecy Act, etc.), as well as Company annual meetings. Lead training if needed.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic general office environment
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required
  • Must have the ability to coordinate diverse tasks simultaneously within stringent time frames
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field or 5-10 years of SBA closing experience required
  • Prior experience with loan closings, preferably in a commercial lending environment required
  • Previous Audit or compliance experience preferred
