About the Position
Don't miss this unique opportunity to work with patients who are at risk and require treatment for sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis. Sexually transmitted infections have been increasing nationally and locally; prevention through treatment and contact investigation is a priority for the Department of Public Health. In this role, we will look to you to teach nursing students, medical students, and other healthcare professionals in training how to manage these patients. With your support, we will lead public health in its efforts to reduce and stop the spread of these infectious diseases and to train healthcare providers to be part of the public health system.

Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner educational program Valid unrestricted license to practice as a Family Nurse practitioner issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and in good standing

Teach healthcare workers in training (including nursing, nurse practitioners and medical students, medical residents, and fellows) how to obtain a health history, perform a clinical examination, diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases, screen for tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis, perform a clinical examination, and diagnose and treat tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis Assist with the development of teaching curricula for sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis (including latent tuberculosis) that meet the needs of a variety of healthcare professionals and students in training in collaboration with experienced colleagues based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other standards Obtain patient health history, perform examinations, and assess patient needs to establish a working diagnosis Determine and perform appropriate medical procedures as indicated by diagnosis Prescribe and dispense medication in accordance with state and federal regulations Document subjective and objective findings in a complete and organized manner Prepare client assessments and client plans in a clear, logical manner Provide basic health education and counseling Coordinate medical resources to meet patient needs Order appropriate imaging and laboratory tests as indicated Upon completion of training, serves on a rotational basis as the provider on-call to receive high-priority public health reports during night, weekend, and holiday hours and provides medical or infection control guidance to healthcare providers with backup support from a public health physician
Working Conditions
Work is primarily conducted in a clinical setting, but may have the opportunity to work in a field setting or mobile healthcare unit Ability to exert 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly and walk/stand to a significant degree Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire Travel will be required for attending conferences, training, and possibly varying work locations Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
