Auburn University manages the Harris Early Learning Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and we're looking for someone like you to join our vibrant and supportive team in our state-of-the-art accredited preschool facility for over 200 children ranging in age from six weeks to five years old!

Our Teachers are critical to our success at Harris Early Learning Center! In this role, you will have the important opportunity to plan, create, and implement daily programs for preschool learning environments. Each classroom is staffed with two full-time Teachers, and we have 16 classrooms at the Center.
Our Assistant Teachers are critical to our classroom success at Harris Early Learning Center! In this role, you will have the important opportunity to help Teachers plan, create, and implement daily programs for preschool learning environments. Depending on the needs of the Center, Assistant Teachers may move around to multiple classrooms to assist.
This is a part-time temporary position. Temporary Employment Services (
TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university.
TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work
- Emergencies

State of Alabama Teacher Salary Matrix Salaries are determined by level of education and years of experience.
High School Diploma: $15.48/hr - $19.23/hr
Associate's Degree: $16.44/hr - $20.19/hr
Bachelor's Degree: $17.40/hr - $21.15/hr
Master's Degree: $18.36/hr - $22.11/hr |
Essential Functions |
The
HELC Assistant Teacher is a training position and assists teachers with the essential functions of the position. The
HELC Teacher assumes responsibility for the essential functions of the position to include, but not limited to:
- Plans and implements a curriculum for a group of children consistent with developmentally appropriate early childhood education practice and in accordance with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards.
- Mentors and facilitates the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children through safe and structured environments.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates a daily program which includes designing classroom arrangement for optimal learning, and developing planning materials and activities that facilitate active learning for the children.
- Provides, instructs, and evaluates a daily program which includes designing classroom arrangement for optimal learning, and developing planning materials and activities that facilitate active learning for the children.
- Participates in modeling best classroom practices for undergraduate students completing course requirements or internships.
- Collaborates with community representatives such as therapists, specialists, and psychologists as needed. Administers medication per doctor's prescribing instructions.
- Communicates with parents on a daily basis to keep them informed of daily progress of their child.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some positions may require progress towards a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- If selected you will be required to obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate within 60 days of hire, and a TB Skin Test.
