Responsibilities

You will assist a federal agency in executing its cultural, historic, archeological, and environmental program and complying with federal and state laws and regulations, such as the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA, and others). Strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver innovative solutions, a sound understanding of required laws and processes, and creative problem-solving acumen are critical success factors.

Representative responsibilities:

    Supports the environmental and project teams in assuring regulatory compliance for assigned projects and programs;
  • Reviews technical reports for compliance with DHS/CBP and other federal policies and directives;
  • Provides management and technical oversight of various cultural tasks, including archaeological investigations and reporting;
  • Oversees field survey methods, schedules, and execution, field reports, coordination and consultation with state, federal, and tribal representatives;
  • Oversees BMP development, implementation and corrective measures where needed;
  • Coordinates with Project Managers on implementation of BMPs during construction and project execution, provides status reporting on BMP implementation as needed;
  • Tracks progress of requirements until completion and ensures schedules are updated and documents are entered into team and client document tracking systems (i.e. FITT and TRIRIGA);
  • Consultation with various State Historic Preservation Offices on behalf of our clients in fulfillment of compliance requirements under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA); consultation with various Tribal Historic Officers as well
  • Update team and processes based on regulation changes and agency protocols and requirements;
  • Attend project review meetings and site visits
  • Position will also entail working independently or with limited supervision.


Qualifications

  • M.S or M.A. in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's professional standards for archaeology or anthropology
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration, or management;
  • Demonstrated experience in cultural resource management and working knowledge of state and federal regulations including the Section 106 process and historic preservation statutes
  • Field experience developing survey methodology and conducting/directing field surveys. Experience as a primary investigator is a plus.
  • Ability to synthesize archaeological data from intensive field studies;
  • Proficiency of all aspects of compliance procedures under Section 106 of the NHPA;

Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred.
