Position Summary:


The Procedural Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Performs advanced nursing activities, which can include , placement of IV's, and administering coronary vasodilator drugs (Lexiscan) for stress test purposes and an adenosine antagonist to shorten the duration of increased coronary blood flow induced by the coronary vasodilator (Lexiscan)
  • Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
  • Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
  • Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
  • Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in the development of departmental standing orders.
  • Applies Holter/Event monitors
  • Perform EKG
  • Perform cardiac stress testing
  • Administers intravenous medications and fluids
  • 1.) Support for Echo team, including but limited to IV starts and bubble studies on inpatient units
    2.) IV med pushes for Radiology
    3.) Patient transport as needed
    4.) Support for Cardiopulmonary Rehab department when needed (d/t patient condition changes)
    5.) Pre-testing patient phone calls (daily)
    6.) Management of ICE (Ischemic Cardiac Evaluation) patient process (daily)
    7.) Rapid Response when needed/called in radiology department or EKG coverage when EKG Tech's unavailable
    8.) Support for Heart Failure team with outpatient calls when needed
