Laboratory Manager

The Division of Infectious Diseases, Men's Health Study is recruiting for a Laboratory Manager. The incumbent will be expected to conduct complex laboratory procedures and a variety of routine to complex scientific tasks. This will include daily high-volume specimen processing and data collection, as well as equipment maintenance and set up. This position ensures adherence to all established protocols and regulatory practices associated with the local laboratory and national research project. Position involves interaction within the network of study laboratories nation-wide and periodic scheduled study lab calls. Includes mentoring lower-level technicians in lab procedures and etiquette as needed. Training for Dangerous Goods Shipping will be necessary, and can be provided after hire if needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily sample processing, coordinating research activities, enforcing laboratory safety guidelines and proper chemical/biohazard waste disposals, budgeting, managing laboratory supplies, and equipment maintenance. In addition, incumbent will manage data import of specimen information into local databases and be responsible for finding and pulling archived samples for collaborating research studies.


Job Summary

Acts as operational laboratory manager to oversee general day-to-day operations and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and protocols. Evaluates new products, negotiates vendor prices, and instructs staff and researchers in quality control and proper procedures.


Essential Functions

This position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, logistical/organizational planning, visual acuity, and basic computer skills.


Physical Effort

This position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
