DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee the diesel and automotive fleet for Wyoming County, which entails assigning vehicles and organizing maintenance and repair schedules. Your responsibilities will include managing the county garage and supervising the staff tasked with the upkeep, repair, and dispatch of automotive and highway maintenance equipment. You will ensure that the facilities used for equipment storage are safe, efficient, and well-maintained. Additionally, you will develop and execute a preventative maintenance program aimed at enhancing equipment performance and recommend corrective measures as needed. You will also be responsible for scheduling training and certification for Equipment Operators and Mechanics, coordinating the logistics of training sessions, and evaluating the quality of the training provided. Conducting cost-benefit analyses by examining equipment reports, payroll hours, and repair expenses will be essential to determine whether equipment should be repaired or disposed of. Furthermore, you will inspect assigned equipment to assess the need for replacement, repairs, or maintenance for county vehicles and equipment, and administer driving skills tests to candidates for operator and mechanic positions to evaluate their capability to operate a commercial motor vehicle with a manual transmission. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Winter shifts are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Schedule is subject to change due to weather/season
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Tunkhannock.
- Alternate work schedule may be available upon completing probationary period
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines and other components of heavy highway maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment including one year of such experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class B Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent with the air brake restriction (L) removed.
- This position requires possession of a valid PA Class 7 State Inspection Mechanic Certification.
- This position requires one year of experience or training in the repair or maintenance of diesel engines.
