DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will undertake various responsibilities within a designated geographical area of the Commonwealth, focusing on the regulation of public water systems to ensure adherence to the Department's standards and safeguard public health. Your role will involve a comprehensive assessment of a public water system to evaluate the adequacy of its sources, facilities, equipment, and operational maintenance, thereby determining its capacity to consistently deliver safe drinking water. Furthermore, you will perform both full and partial inspections of assigned public drinking water supplies, primarily within your designated area, to assess compliance with the PA Safe Drinking Water Act and its related regulations. You will complete a "Public Water Supply Inspection Report" that highlights deficiencies and violations, recommending corrective actions or operational changes to be implemented within specified timeframes, typically established in consultation with the operator. Additionally, you will provide information in various settings-field, office, or via phone-to waterworks operators, the general public, professional engineers, attorneys, laboratories, municipal officials, and other stakeholders. You will also review plans and specifications for new and existing Non-Community Water Systems (NCWSs), including the siting and construction of new sources, treatment systems, and the design of storage and distribution systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
