Assistant Controller Location: Durham, NC (In-office 3 days/week, with flexibility) Compensation: $160-200K + bonus + Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) Relocation: Full relocation offered About the Role We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support financial reporting and accounting operations, specifically focused on our insurance subsidiaries. This role is responsible for GAAP, statutory (STAT), and Bermuda reporting, with a focus on reinsurance accounting. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will help maintain accuracy in the general ledger, ensure timely financial statement preparation, and provide support for compliance and internal controls. Key Responsibilities Reinsurance Accounting: Record accounting entries for reinsurance and oversee reporting; review contracts to determine accurate accounting methods. Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing annual and quarterly financial statements and managing regulatory filings. Internal Controls: Support MAR and SOX compliance through key control activities and account reconciliations. Audit Support: Provide necessary documentation and support to external and regulatory auditors. Team Development: Offer training and guidance to staff accountants, helping to foster a high-performing, collaborative team. Chart of Accounts Management: Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts and ensure accurate data interfaces. Acquisition Support: Assist in accounting guidance and support for potential acquisition activities. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting with 5 years of relevant experience, or 4 years in a similar accounting role. Insurance Experience: Prior experience in insurance industry accounting is required. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with GAAP and statutory accounting, as well as reinsurance accounting standards. Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access; experience with Oracle, Hyperion, TM1, and Adaptive is a plus. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
