Emergency Medical Technician Job Responsibilities: The Emergency Medical Technician 2 provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens. Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
- Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
- Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
- Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
- Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
- Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
- Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Shift: 12 Hour Evening (10am - 10pm) Schedule: Days Vary Training: Ideal candidate must be able to attend 6 week training Requirements: * Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience * Education: High School Diploma or GED * Certification: BLS and EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification * Training: Candidate must be able to attend six week training orientation upon hire. * Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
