SUMMARY

The role of the Shipping Superintendent is to direct the company's regional shipping/distribution operations to ensure that the company's service levels are met with a continued focus on achieving operational excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Directly supervise multiple shipping locations. Carry out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, code of conduct and applicable laws.
  • Lead and motivate staff to perform duties in a safe and efficient responsible manner applying rules, regulations and policies with fair and consistent practice.
  • Lead internal efforts in developing implementation of best practices throughout the shipping operation.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts across all locations, with a continued focus on achieving operational excellence across the distribution network.
  • Define KPI's across the network and holds each site accountable on meeting or exceeding those targets.
  • Manage day-to-day shipping operations, measures performance for on time, in-full delivery performance, shipping costs for all forms of transit, warehouse inventory management, warehousing productivity and quality, and workforce planning requirements.
  • Perform root cause analysis for problem reconciliation and lead corrective action for complaints related to transportation, logistics handling and warehousing of finished products.
  • Direct staff to support strategic customer care service objectives, enhance staff, team skills and competencies, and establish team performance objectives.
  • Ensure all carriers comply with legal, quality and safety standards.
  • Confer with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities with activities of other functions such as production, sales, quality control and purchasing.
  • Define and forecast needed skills, tools and equipment to meet project objectives.
  • Define the needed skills, tool and equipment to meet shipping department objectives.
  • Carry a safety focused mindset. Lead and drive safety initiatives across the network to ensure a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Develop warehousing strategies for new products, assist Logistics in the preparation of RFPs to evaluate potential suppliers and make appropriate recommendations to senior management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required with some post-secondary education
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years managerial experience
  • Experience with distribution and warehousing
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Hands-on experience with departmental metrics, experience monitoring the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of shipping operations
  • Familiarity with MS Excel and MS Office suite
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Four Kites experience desired
  • Experience working/maintaining WMS system
  • Ability to travel 15%

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and climb; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently make minor decisions with limited information, general decisions in the absence of specific directions, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. During active remediation additional requirements may include fit testing for respiratory equipment, chemical suits, face shields, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs. Limited travel (up to 15%) may be required in the performance of duties.
