About the Job

The Institute for Sexual and Gender Health, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is seeking a .5 Research Study Manager for primary support of a one-year grant focused on patient education tools to be used with women who have been circumcised.

The Research Study Manager will provide overall administrative project management, coordinate and collaborate with community partners, oversee participant recruitment, data collection, coordination, regulatory management. Data collection will be in both Somali and English. This position will be 20 hours a week.

Position Responsibilities:

Project Management and regulatory requirements 20%: Responsible for the day-to-day aspects of the study under the direction of the principal investigator (PI) Dr. Jennifer Connor.

Recruitment Activities 25%: Oversee and help to coordinate participant recruitment. Work with study investigators, community partners, and community engagement staff/recruiters to create and disseminate recruitment plan and materials.

Data Collection 25%: Conduct interviews and consent participants in either Somali or English.

Data Management and Monitoring 10%: Create, maintain, and manage all electronic and non-electronic data.

Study Regulatory requirements 10%: Assure that all IRB, granting agency, and University, regulations for the grant are adhered to.

Project Dissemination 10%: Work with project investigators and staff on the development of project study plans, presentations, and publications.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four (4) years in a human sexuality, psychology, social science, or health- related area (Human Sexuality, Psychology, Marriage/Family Studies, Nursing, Medicine, Sociology, Anthropology, Social work, Public Health, social science. or related field)
  • Extensive (minimum of 4 years) knowledge of and experience with the Somali culture and the Somali American community in MN.
  • Fluent in Somali with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Somali and English.
  • Comfort with and knowledge about sexual health.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Good computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license with reliable transportation on a daily basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data collection experience in an institutional, home visiting, or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience with and interest in participant recruitment and/or outreach into the Somali community/diaspora.
  • Good organizational ability and follow through to manage scheduling and conducting multiple interviews in a timely manner.
  • Some interviewing experience and skill eliciting information on sensitive and personal topics in the Somali American or Somali community (such as sexuality or health information).
  • Comfort teaching/helping others use technologies, such as a software system.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a diverse team, and in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships across cultural differences.
  • Work style that is self-motivated, adaptive, and that includes the ability to fulfill a variety of functions in a team environment without direct supervision.
  • Interest in working in a highly collaborative setting as part of a diverse team.

The Program in Human Sexuality is one of the largest clinical, teaching, and research institutions in the world specializing in human sexuality. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.47 per hour to $26.77 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 50% Appointment
