About the Job

Full-time, nine-month, annual-renewable, Lecturer or Tenure-Track faculty in Sport Media and Communication in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Department based at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 11, 2025. This position involves teaching both on-campus and on line courses. The normal teaching load for this position is 15 credits per semester for lecturers and 12 credits per semester for tenure-track appointments during the academic year. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Lecturers are eligible for professional development support. Final job offer is contingent upon completed background check and receipt of official transcripts. Individuals must be willing to locate to the Crookston/North Grand Forks region before commencing employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate students in coursework in the field of Sport Media and Communication. This individual will teach representative courses in the field such as: Introduction to Sport Communication, Multimedia Production, Sport Broadcast Production, and Sport Media Writing and other communication classes to serve the needs of the Communication program. This position will assist in the development of department goals and objectives; advise students; contribute to student recruitment and retention initiatives; and support research and community outreach in the areas of discipline. The responsibilities also include developing and maintaining strong ties to the other scholars in the field, enriching the student experience and supporting student employment opportunities. Service to the Department, University and/or community is also expected. The position requires relocation to the Crookston/Grand Forks/Fertile regional area and regular office hours and engagement in service activities on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Sports Communication and Media, Sports Information, or a related field
  • Campus and online teaching experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Record of effective teaching both in on-campus and online environments.
  • Ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences and to draw upon cultural and community based knowledge in teaching.
  • Possess a commitment to an experiential education philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Final offer contingent upon receipt of official transcripts, complete background check, and authorization to work in the United States. The final job offer is contingent upon a complete background check and receipt of official transcripts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Communications, Media, Sports Communications, or related field no later than August 2025. Three-Five (3-5} years of professional experience in the sports industry.
  • Strong commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching at the undergraduate level in both the on campus and online environments.
  • An established program of research and publication, including emerging media issues.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience creating collaborative partnerships for joint university/community projects.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Tenured Track (9403 - $62,000-$67,000) or P&A Lecturer (9753 - $56,000-$62,000); depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
