The Gordon-Browne Proton Therapy Center (GBPTC) is a cutting-edge machine utilizing an ultra-compact proton therapy unit installed within an existing high-rise building. The continued success of the department requires a motivated engineer capable of working in a patient care critical environment. The Clinical Engineering Manager oversees all technical activities and provides expert troubleshooting, maintenance, and development of the system. Also responsible for supervision of the clinical engineering program staff and technicians to ensure the highest quality services to the agency. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Oversees and approves staff hiring, work allocation, training, performance management, including required documentation, as well as other supervisory functions. * Oversee technical projects and project plans * Participate in engineering coverage for machine operation as needed * Deploy and manages project plans * Identify areas for efficiencies * Have regular contact with all team members and ensure work is adequately distributed * Improve processes and documentation, including the quality management system * Maintain a good working knowledge of the fundamental equipment subsystems * Take a leading role in implementing and updating the quality system * Review improvement requests from the technical group * Record rationale for expenditures * Communicate status and needs to department leadership * Help to improve documentation * Create written procedures * May be involved in upgrades and other projects related to clinical innovation and research within the Department of Radiation Oncology SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED * Thorough knowledge of accelerator operations and technology * A highly skilled individual who demonstrates ingenuity in design, construction, operation or maintenance of highly technical apparatus. * A detailed knowledge of instruments and test equipment * Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical devices * High levels of communication and interdisciplinary teamwork SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Managing budgets- both capital and operating- for engineering projects. WORKING CONDITIONS Most work conducted in an office environment in normal business hours; some work in machine shops or laboratory/workshop areas will be included. Will occasionally have patient contact. Will occasionally be required to work in a radiation environment which is protected and monitored according to federal and state regulations. Will be required to handle or manage the handling of some radioactive materials. Night and weekend work sometimes required. Short notice schedule changes may also be required. Must be able to climb ladders as necessary and to carry equipment up to 35 pounds. Qualifications
EDUCATION
EXPERIENCE * Must have 4+ years of development experience with the ProTom Radiance 330 proton therapy system or similar system. * Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical devices * Project management experience * Supervisory experience EEO Statement Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
