Huntsman is seeking a Scientist supporting the Huntsman Advanced Materials Americas LLC Division located in The Woodlands, Texas. This position will report to the Senior Technology Manager.

Job Scope

Develop innovative solutions for high performance structural adhesive applications. In this role the successful candidate will be, as a team member, responsible for formulating and characterizing new adhesive systems such as those commonly used in Aerospace, Automotive, Electronic and other industries.

In summary, as the Scientist for Adhesive, you will:

  • Develop new and modify existing adhesive systems in order to improve their performance/cost characteristics with the guidance of senior scientists.
  • Hands on experience and fluency with various rheology and thermal analysis instruments specific to thermoset chemistry.
  • Daily fabrication and mechanical testing of high-performance matrix and adhesive systems.
  • Candidate must have good communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Candidate should understand basic structure-property relationships of polymeric materials.
  • Develop intellectual property such as patents, papers, presentation etc. to maintain Huntsman as the technology leader in high performance composite materials.
  • Support sales and distribution with professional recommendations for specific application and products.
  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Polymer Science.
  • 1+ years of industrial R&D experience on structural film adhesives.
  • Hands on experience and interpretation knowledge on analytical equipment, testing equipment such as DSC, RDA, DMA, TGA, HPLC, IR, Instron, ASTM, SACMA test methods etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formulation experience in thermosetting materials, such as epoxies, acrylates, polyurethanes, etc.

Skills and knowledge

  • Strong chemistry knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • Understand structure - property relationship.
  • Understands supports and conforms to company policies and processes. Integrates policies and processes into projects.
  • Project management skills, knowledge of manufacturing, business, and internal/external customers to independently plan and direct the aspects of their project area.
  • Works with minimal supervision and completes assignments on time using available resources.
  • Demonstrates initiative and drive through accomplished tasks. Demonstrated ability to follow through on mutually agreed upon ideas and goals.
  • Uses feedback effectively and actively contributes as a team member.

Working Environment

  • Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals (with proper protective equipment) may occur between 25% and 50% of the time.
  • Moderate noise levels are typical for this job.
  • Physical demands such as standing or walking may occur up to 60% of the time.
  • Lifting requirements of up to 50 lbs may occur less than 25% of the time.
