The Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Construction Management. Candidates who demonstrate a broad background in construction management and/or architecture are encouraged to apply.

Position Summary:

The Department of Construction Management in the Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants who can:
  • develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management and/or architectural studies;
  • advise students on academic and career planning;
  • contribute to Department, College, and University level committee work;
  • participate in community service;
  • engage in student-related activities such as supervising student projects, advising student clubs, coaching teams for student competitions, etc.;
  • engage in professional and scholarly activities such as publishing academic and professional works, leading externally funded research, participating in related professional organizations, etc.;
  • build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners to ensure the continued growth of construction management and architectural studies education at Fresno State;
  • and demonstrate a commitment to teaching, student mentoring, and working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Overview:

The Department of Construction Management in the Lyles College of Engineering, California State University, Fresno, offers a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM) accredited program through the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The department also offers a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (BSAS), a Master of Science in Construction Management (MSCM), and a Minor in Construction Management. The Department of Construction Management is one of the fastest-growing departments on campus and is well known for curricular innovation, service learning, and industry engagement which provides opportunities to its diverse student body. The BSCM and BSAS curricula provide students with practical experience through embedded service learning, experiential learning, and a mandatory, credit-based internship program to prepare all students for professional employment at graduation. The department also has a rich history of collaborating with construction companies throughout the nation. In recent years, the department successfully secured federal, regional, and local grants from agencies including the National Science Foundation, CalTrans, and industry to conduct fundamental and applied research. The department seeks candidates that will devote themselves to achieving its mission to "develop character, build leaders, and sustain learning," and foster the continuous growth of the department in teaching, research, and service excellence.

Required Qualifications:
  1. A doctorate in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution (the degree must be completed by August 1st, 2025), AND three or more years of professional experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) related field, OR
  2. A master's degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution (the degree must be completed by August 1st, 2025), AND five or more years in an AEC-related field.
  3. demonstrated instructional design and/or classroom teaching experience at the university level; and
  4. demonstrated experience in scholarly and professional activities (e.g., academic and professional publications, or portfolios showcasing professional practice or creative work)

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or related field from an accredited institution
  2. An AEC specialization, which can include but is not limited to Architectural Design and Project Management, Scheduling and Cost Estimating, Project Controls, Building Information Modeling (BIM) / Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Digital Twins, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Lean Construction, Resilient and Sustainable Design and Construction, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  3. Undergraduate- or graduate-level teaching experience
  4. Experience in participating in, developing, and leading external grants
  5. Professional certifications (CCM, DBIA Professional, LEED AP, etc.) or licensures (Registered Architect, Professional Engineer, etc.) related to the AEC industry

Commensurate with education and experience the anticipated hiring range is $7,400-$7,750 per month for Assistant Professors (12 monthly payments per year).
