Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $95,600 - $181,800. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $110,000 - $125,000.

Job Closing Date

This position is approved for a hybrid work modality. The department will consider a fully remote arrangement for the well-qualified applicant who resides in California.

Are you a seasoned, experienced software professional interested in developing applications and integrations to drive financial and student information system solutions in support of UC Merced's strategic growth? If so, we invite you to apply to join our diverse hybrid team as the Student Information System Programmer Analyst! Reporting to the Student Information System Manager, the successful candidate will utilize a deep understanding of industry practices, community standards, and relevant policies and procedures to work on analysis, design, programming, testing, documenting, production migration, maintenance, and support of applications and solutions across the University technology ecosystem, primarily focusing on Banner Student Information System modules, including Accounts Receivables, Financial Aid, Student, Admissions, and General. Technically, you will work with Java, SQL, PL/SQL, Page Builder, Interfaces, Reports, Conversions, Integrations, Web Services (SOAP/RESTful), XML, Excel Templates, Workflow, and third-party SAAS solutions (UC Apply, Slate, CashNet, Canvas, StarRez, NuPark, CSGOLD...) to integrate them via APIs.

The incumbent will regularly report on project status and issues; resolve a wide range of technical challenges; demonstrate competency in selecting tools, methods, and techniques to obtain results; and build strong partnerships to deliver the best possible outcomes to our campus stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Applies advanced business analysis concepts to identify, evaluate and define highly complex systems scope and objectives based on advanced knowledge of applicable business practices, processes and systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs. Works at the highest technical level with SQL, PL/SQL, Java, Groovy on Grails, Page Builder, templates, Ethos, Automic, Web Services (SOAP/RESTful), XML, Excel Templates, JDeveloper, Workflow, SFTP, and work with SAAS-based solution (Oracle Finance, CashNet, Canvas, StarRez, NuPark, CSGOLD...) to integrate them via API. Report on project status, issues, and resolves a wide range of technical problems. Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods, and techniques to obtain results and technically astute with the ability to troubleshoot complex applications with multiple integrations.
  2. Collaborate across Information Technology, campus, and the UC on projects taking on a multitude of roles from project lead, developer, analyst, tester. Communicate issues clearly and develop other team members. Work with Service Now, Jira, and other organizational tools. Support production, upgrades, changes, and user support requests via on-call rotation. Create and maintain functional BP080 and BR100, and technical MD050, MD070 documentation. Lead cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues. Initiates, facilitates, implements, and documents work process changes. Prepares and approves or obtains approval for business process and procedural documentation. Initiate and oversee changes in processes and procedures. Set the technical requirements for complex specifications.
  3. Performs highly complex setups, configurations, analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements and translation into the proper system and process requirement specifications in the areas of UC Apply, Slate, Banner Admissions, Banner Accounts Receivables, Banner Financial Aid, Banner Student and Banner General. Serve as a cross-module integration project coordinator to assist in the resolution of cross-module issues. Review and test new functionality, patches, and releases prior to deployment. Evaluate customized solutions and develop approaches collaboratively with business teams on how to best leverage delivered SIS functionality, minimize customizations, and maximize benefits across the enterprise. Drive results and maximize value by staying current with Banner, UC Apply, Slate product and service enhancements, roadmap, and platform upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems (IS) or Information Technology (IT) or related field from an accredited institution; or
  • High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training combined with at least 4 years of working in a complex IT organization and demonstrated knowledge of Information Technology systems and practices in lieu of a bachelor's degree; and
  • Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent experience and/or training (required).
  • Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
  • Functional and technical design and configuration experience with some combination of the following
  • Banner modules in Release 8/9: Banner Accounts Receivables, Financial Aid, Student and General
  • Experience managing Finance/Student-IT related projects, coordinating with project committee, and regular analysis of work streams. Includes RICE items and design, testing, documenting, training, and implementation of any enhancement of financial and student systems.
  • Possess complete and thorough working knowledge of accounting, AR, Fin-Aid, Student, Admissions, and student life cycle principles.
  • Demonstrated skills needed to develop process and system implementation plans. Advanced skills and methodologies associated with process and software design, modification and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with process analysis, systems analysis, process architecture and systems analysis methodologies and practices including traditional waterfall, Agile, Agile Scrum, UML, UML.
  • Understanding and skill in complex process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of workflows, process, SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, Reports, and Linux scripting.
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Integration experience, using APIs & XML templates
  • Flexibility to work independently with minimal supervision, or collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills to work with business.
  • The ability to maintain a stakeholder management plan for each active module assigned as well as develop new stakeholder management plans for new solutions.
  • Demonstrates abilities to support the team in creating an atmosphere of trust, supporting diverse views to encourage innovation and design thinking, participate in staff recruitment and retention activities, and coaching staff including providing timely meaningful and actionable written and verbal feedback.
  • Experience working in or integrating with ERP systems such as Oracle Cloud Financials, Banner, Slate and SalesForce.
