Summary The Senior Technician guides and directs the clinical equipment program in a single hospital and/or multiple sites. The role directs the work of technicians in assigned locations while working under the supervision of the Site Manager or Sr. Site Manager. This role installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and verifies the performance of highly complex medical equipment and systems, independent of technical supervision. The individual should be competent in the use of all applicable test equipment and tools required in the performance of duties. The associate in this role is fully capable of educating others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of medical systems. The Sr. Technician provides assistance with managing daily operations of the team; including scheduling staff schedules, scheduled equipment maintenance and project implementation. Responsibilities
- May be over one site or multiple sites.
- Provides assistance with expense management for local site.
- Tactical in nature with at least 65% of the time performing the work of a technician.
- General time horizon for tasks and planning: Daily: 70% including ticket assignment; Weekly: 30%; Monthly: PM work assigned monthly; Quarterly: 0%; Annually 0%
Leadership
- Apply knowledge and experience of technology and/or equipment to provide direction to others.
- Motivate others through praise and recognition.
- Manage the work and scheduling of technicians in a manner that assures the best service possible.
- Manages on-call functions/rotation within the database.
- Coach and mentor technicians by providing feedback on performance and documentation.
- Monitor overall service delivery, including but not limited to; service turnaround time, service backlog and reducing unable to locate devices.
- Capable of serving as a trainer to junior and mid-level technicians.
- Pulls on-call and manages on-call functions/rotation within the database.
- Serve as a liaison between the team and management.
- Serve as team members resource, helps through complex problems and work order reassignments.
- Conduct team huddles delivering important information.
- Actively strive to promote an appropriate environment for team growth (change motivator).
- Influences change through recommendations.
Technical Service
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM), performance verifications (PV), electrical safety inspections (ESI) and operation verification procedures (OVP) on highly complex and intricate biomedical equipment.
- Repair, install and calibrate highly complex and intricate biomedical equipment.
- Inform departments of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections and unusual equipment situations.
- Identify in-source opportunities and address any customer concerns.
- Work with, direct and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery.
- Maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education.
- Lead service operations and special projects as assigned.
- Travel to sites and\or work with other Central Office associates as necessary for the collection and analysis of information and\or data pertaining to any special assignments.
- Capable of serving as a technical resource to the department as a trainer to junior and mid-level technicians and coordinating cross-training/technician development across the department.
- Utilizes policies/process as a guide in day to day activities. Seeks approval for activities outside of policies/process.
- Support and make recommendations on continuous improvement initiatives and work with leadership to implement identified corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance
- Lead by example in documentation of work performed, quality/thorough notes, accuracy and timeliness of work order completion.
- Assist with work order pending approval process.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include but not limited to the inventory, preventative maintenance (PM) schedules, nomenclature and service history.
- Adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), including all regulatory agency compliances and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring all service documentation is complete, timely, and accurate
- Ensure the timely approval of site work orders with the goal of maintaining a zero balance at the end of each month.
- Submit regulatory requests when needed.
Account Relationship Management
- Build and maintain customer relationships in the departments.
- Discuss equipment status and functionality with clinicians.
- Adheres to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization(s) served.
- Regular interaction with external customers and end users (technologist, nurses, technicians) to resolve issues.
Inventory
- Perform periodic inspections of current inventory status.
- Verify the completion of security analysis for new customer equipment.
- Performs performance verification (PV) to maintain a complete and accurate inventory of medical devices, including trial and evaluation, rental, loaner equipment in addition to permanently assigned equipment inventory and conduct audits reassuring temporary devices are dispositioned timely.
- Manages inventory validation process, developing a plan of action to reassuring monthly goal is achieved.
- Perform rounding in departments to verify accuracy of inventory.
All other duties as assigned. Skills and Experience
- Complex computer skills required, including the ability to administrate a system, interpret error codes, defragment hard-drives, replace power supplies, interpret computer codes and apply networking concepts.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
- Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and influence clinical engineering staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills. Possess strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills in effort to make effective decisions.
- Valid driver's license required; variable travel requirements depending on primary site or region that may require use of personal vehicle.
Education and Qualifications
- 2 year degree in a technical/electronics field or equivalent experience required. This requirement will be waived if the applicant has received the TRIMEDX Trained Certification or completed an equivalent biomedical related certification program.
- Technical Certification such as A+, CBET, CRES or CLES preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience working with biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment.
- Must have CE experience and knowledge and an ability to influence others.
