Job Summary

The Transplant Coordinator is a nursing resource for the clinical case management of stem cell or CAR-T transplant patients across the continuum of pre- and post-transplant/infusion standard of care. The responsibility involves the seamless coordination of the interdisciplinary medical care delivery system under the direction of the Medical Director.

The Transplant Coordinator ensures excellent coordination and communication efforts among patients, families, medical staff, referring physicians, sponsors, and insurance companies.

The Transplant Coordinator leverages advanced skills in patient assessment, particularly in hematology and oncology, to provide comprehensive care. While coordinating the care process, the TC also maintains accountability for their own practice, delivering direct care to a diverse patient population. #CA-DC

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Advanced case management experience.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and utilize advanced knowledge of medical terminology in a hematology/oncology setting.
  • Knowledge and skills related to cell transplantation/infusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and make independent clinical decisions accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of treatment medication, indications, dosage range, side effects, and potential toxicities.
  • Advanced ability to assess educational needs of patients and provide education appropriate to their learning needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BMT Certified
  • Oncology Certified
  • Certified Hematopoietic Transplant Coordinator
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 2+ years of Clinical Nursing experience.
  • Advanced experience of clinical research coordination and clinical trials management.
  • Knowledge of stem cell and CAR-T research and therapies.
  • Knowledge of Foundation of Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT)
  • Knowledge of legal implications of clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and research process.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure development and implementation.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Alpha Stem Cell Clinic (ASCC) specializes in early phase, first-in-human trials. The Alpha Stem Cell Clinic is devoted to accelerating the translation of all types of stem cell and regenerative medicine research to safe and effective therapies. It attracts patients, funding agencies and study sponsors to participate in, support, and accelerate novel cell and gene therapy clinical trials and ancillary studies for a range of difficult diseases. The Alpha Stem Cell Clinic is a wide-ranging collaboration with unique contributions launched by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) through the Alpha Clinic and other grants.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Transplant Coordinator manages patient assessments to determine the eligibility of cancer patients needing cellular therapy treatment for IRB/FDA-approved phase I-III stem cell or CAR-T clinical trials at UC Davis. The TC will oversee the clinical case management process from the time of consent through treatment and post-treatment care also handling lab specimen processing, research data collection and entry, and other clinical trial-related tasks in support of program objectives.
