Medical Staff Coordinator UnityPoint Health - Waterloo Region Shift: Full-time Days; M-F Benefits Eligible Supervises, coordinates, and supports all Medical Staff office functions including local credentialing, medical education, governance and section meetings, policy revisions, and process improvement. Represents UPH-Waterloo and actively participates in UnityPoint Health System credentialing committees and activities. This position is open to a potential hybrid work from home option. Responsibilities
- Processes all requests in reference to practitioner credentialing.
- Processes applications of practitioners requesting Medical Staff appointment in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws, DNV and CMS standards.
- Responsible for primary source verification of new physician and/or Allied Health Professional applications to associated critical access hospitals.
- May process requests for expedited clinical privileges/activities for new applicants and other temporary privileges as well as requests for increases in privileges, in an accurate and timely manner.
- Coordinates orientation for new practitioners.
- Maintains positive practitioner and staff relationships.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical staff activities as they related to peer review, quality improvements, medico-legal issues, license, malpractice insurance, and delineation of privileges, confidential hearing records and reappointment.
- Coordinates clinical quality improvement and risk management efforts as it relates to medical review functions and re-credentialing.
- Communicates and coordinates with all members of the healthcare team to ensure positive outcomes.
- Prepares electronic presentations and projects.
- Assesses compliance to regulatory standards with recommendations for change. Evaluates effectiveness of monitoring system annually.
- Makes suggestions to the Manager, Medical Staff Services for revisions to the Medical Staff Bylaws, policies and procedures concerning the credentialing/ recredentialing process as appropriate.
- Prepare for, attend, and follow through with the monthly medical staff meetings.
- Keeps abreast of applicable regulatory guidelines and proposes appropriate bylaws/policy/procedure revisions, deletions, and additions as necessary. Assists in achieving compliance and participates in related survey processes.
- Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Medical Staff credentialing and re-credentialing processes acting decisively and taking effective action when problems occur.
- Provides leadership and education to the Medical Staff on current credentialing issues.
- Interfaces with national benchmarking organizations and UnityPoint Health and workgroups
- Coordinates meetings between administration, practitioners, and staff.
- Publishes monthly medical staff meeting calendar.
- Organizes section and various committees to include agenda and support materials.
- Responsible for physical set-up of meetings as noted above to include place, food reservations and support equipment.
- Prepares reports adequately and timely for assigned committees and documents activity appropriately to meet regulatory standards with correct storage and handling of confidential data.
- Provides PI support to hospital and medical staff.
- Designs and implements PI initiatives at the local affiliate and UPH System level as needed.
- Conducts reviews of operational performance systems and assists the improvement teams to clarify specific benchmarks.
- Coordinates continuing medical education programs.
- Completes the design and/or implementation of special projects.
- Assists with value stream mapping with focus on both local process and organizational needs.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum two years' experience in health care setting, Medical Staff office or credentialing
- Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
- Basic computer knowledge, using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser
Preferred:
- Two-year college degree or above
- Familiarity with credentialing software programs
- Certification as a Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) following completion of five years of employment.
