Veterinary Pathobiology Job Description
We are currently seeking a research-oriented veterinarian to join our team to support a range of repository, service, and research initiatives. The position requires a detail-oriented person who can work well in a team environment. Duties would include providing oversight of health monitoring and shipping activities for the NIH-funded rodent Resource Centers (MMRRC and RRRC) and the MU Rat Testing Center for Somatic Cell Genome Editing. This would include reviewing health monitoring protocols and reports, performing health checks, providing clinical assessments of rodents, signing off on USDA paperwork, and consulting with investigators and their veterinary staff both internally and at other institutions. Additional duties would include becoming proficient with all surgical techniques, particularly those related to rodent reproductive biology and cryobiology, and helping to train staff and students to perform these procedures. The individual in this position would serve as the project manager for the Rat Testing Center for Somatic Cell Genome Editing and would be responsible for working with clients to coordinate services required for their projects on a fee-for-service basis. The individual in this position would be expected to actively participate in research projects related to Center activities and would have the opportunity to apply for independent funding if interested. Travel to scientific meetings to present research findings and promote the Centers would be expected. Participation in teaching/training of students (undergraduates, graduate students, veterinary students and lab animal medicine residents) would be encouraged. Top 5 Reasons to Work at the RRRC and MMRRC: 1. We are independent Centers that have been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for over 20 years. Our Centers provide a unique opportunity to be creative and think big while having access to the resources of a large university and strong support from NIH. 2. Our work has global impact. As one of four national MMRRCs and the only Rat Center (one of 2 in the world), we serve investigators both in the US and around the world. 3. We operate with an entrepreneurial spirit and are always willing to test new ideas and strategies from all members of our team. 4. We support a healthy work-life balance. 5. We provide opportunities for cross-training and professional development. Your success is our success. Shift
