Position description

The Department of Design announces a temporary lecturer position to teach a section of DES 115, during the Winter & Spring 2025 quarters.

DES 115: LETTERFORMS AND TYPOGRAPHY -

Studio-4 hours; lecture/discussion-2 hours. Prerequisite: DES 1, 14 (or 21), 15, 16 or consent of instructor. Priority given to Design majors. Fundamentals of letterforms and typography. Characteristics of typefaces; formatting and composition of type. Principles of legibility, visual hierarchy, grid systems, and the integration of type and image.

Design at UC Davis is unique within the University of California system and presents itself as a global model for design education with a research focus.

Applicants must have professional experience in a design field related to the curriculum.

Appointment Dates:

Winter Quarter: January 3 - March 21, 2025

Spring Quarter: March 27 - June 12, 2025

Qualifications:

Appropriate professional degree, e.g. MFA, or equivalent training and professional experience.

Demonstrated teaching ability and experience. A developing record of creative, scholarly, or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area, as described in this announcement.

Salary and Appointment Level:

Commensurate with degree and experience.
