Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to support the development and execution of packaging initiatives across the company. This will involve material selection, evaluation, testing and implementation of packaging for new product development and existing product improvement. Additionally, this individual will be key member of the Enterprise Engineering Team and will help assist with capital and start up projects. As a Packaging Engineer this individual will manage project timelines, packaging material specifications and be a technical resource. This person will also support the purchase of, verification, installation, and commissioning of new packaging machinery and integration into existing or new lines.

    Manage the development of packaging initiatives with moderate guidance and direction.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams for new package design and commercialization.
  • Perform testing of new and existing packaging materials and designs to ensure success through the supply chain including laboratory evaluation and factory trials.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate documentation by creating material specifications, finished good BOM's and project summaries.
  • Identify cost savings projects as it relates to packaging materials and design.
  • Redesigning of existing packaging systems to increase efficiency through automation.
  • Supporting installation of new packaging systems through selecting appropriate machinery, designing layout, managing suppliers, performing FAT's where appropriate, scheduling installations, and commissioning to project completion.
  • Benchmark packaging machinery and applying technologies to the packaging system.
  • Support plant level personnel in troubleshooting of new and existing problems related to machinery performance.
  • Strong project planning and management skills, and the ability to support multiple simultaneous projects effectively.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or other engineering disciplines, or an
    equivalent combination of education and industry experience.

Experience

  • 3 - 7 years of Packaging Engineering experience in a CPG manufacturing enterprise,
    having multi-plant responsibility. Food industry is a preference.

Skills
Required:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and assertiveness skills, necessary to maintain effective and cordial working relationships while prioritizing the foremost responsibility of project execution
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to relate to adjacent internal levels as well as interface with customers and suppliers on a technical level.
  • Project management experience, skilled in the execution of complex and multi-disciplined task management.
  • Possesses a technical understanding of packaging materials and processes applicable to Amy's.
  • Experienced user of CAD programming with packaging and engineering layout design.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, AutoCAD from Autodesk, and TOPS/CAPE.
  • Good presentation skills in dealing with vendors and clients, and the ability to represent Amy's Kitchen in a positive and professional manner.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Reliable/Dependable.

Preferred:

  • Packaging development and commercialization in a new product introduction from concept through execution.
  • Experience in continuous improvement cultures. Lean Thinking, TPM or Six-Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience working in consumer product environment
  • Understanding of Food plant GMPs
  • Highly aware of Food and Human safety requirements
  • Familiar with temperature-controlled production environment

Language Skills
Required:

  • Ability to interpret technical data.
  • Ability to effectively present information to ownership, senior leadership, the
    management team, and hourly employees.

Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking employees

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as basic statistics.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to
    practical situations.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of modern algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems and assemble critical data, establishing the facts, and
    drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
    diagram form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Travel
Ability to travel 30% to all plant facilities

Bay area California compensation: $97,600 - $146,400

*Other locations may be subject to a lower range.
