The Opportunity:

The Associate Director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) plays a key role in supporting over 1,300 international students, scholars, faculty, and staff on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach Campus. The position involves overseeing immigration processes, advising services, and outreach for non-immigrant students, while ensuring compliance with F-1 and J-1 visa regulations. Responsibilities include serving as a DSO for F-1 students, mainly responsible for employment authorization processes like Curricular and Optional Practical Training while serving as a back-up to all processes, advising on immigration-related matters, and assisting the Director as an ARO in managing the university's J-1 visa program. The role also includes developing process and policies that align with the strategic goals of the university while collaborating with faculty and campus partners to support international students in achieving their academic and professional objectives.

This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluates, enters and submits student data into DHS Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)and prepares documents for students and scholars Assists the registration process each semester.
  • Presents the J1 and ERLI immigration orientation presentation.
  • Maintains the on-line immigration presentation by adding to Canvas course the ISSS hold if the course is not completed by the student.
  • Supports the maintenance and updating data for each qualifying event requiring SEVIS reporting
  • Assist in processing requests from ICE via SEVIS for program changes and student record corrections
  • Collaborates with the director the advisement of students in all aspects of the F1 visa holders including guidance on federal immigration regulations and resolving complex application and compliance issues.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in the field of student advising, specifically for visas such as F-1 and J-1 students.
  • Interprets and analyzes internal University policies while aligning with federal immigration
  • Train, mentor, and oversee aspects of on-boarding on new ISSS team members.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of workshops and other educational programs that support commutation and customer service, orientation and retention.
  • Support departmental programming to international students and scholars and promoting their full participation and integration into the University community.
  • Design and execute programs and processes aligned with current strategic objectives.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience. Will consider graduate assistantships as work experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently to handle multiple, complex tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing and new work assignments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with multiple audiences including students, faculty, administrators, and other staff members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to relate well to and motivate students.
  • Ability to speak and present to a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Planning and analytical skills
  • Understanding collaborative and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to mentor students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with Campus Solutions, Via TRM, and SEVIS
