Job Summary |
Spend your summer learning more about the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and making an impact on the lives of Alabamians! The Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources (
AFNR) program team of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking enthusiastic, aspiring extension professionals to join our internship program this summer.
Internships will last 10-12 weeks and may be located throughout the state. Applicants can request any of the 67 counties in Alabama and we will do our best to make placements with field agents based on geographical preference, program area interest and major.
ACES Field Internships are personalized to the student based on their major and interests, but some of the potential job duties include:
- Helping coordinate educational events and programs
- Participation in meetings on local issues
- Assisting with teaching youth or community educational programs
- Preparing for events and activities by researching, gathering materials, getting external support, and contacting participants
- Conducting field research, preparation of materials and translation of data for training of community members and extension personnel
Internships may include developing or improving a project, process, or training tool that can be implemented in the host county/program area.

Essential Functions |
- Demonstrate active listening skills; solicits, listens, and acts on input from others
- Establish positive relationships with customers and coworkers
- Interact effectively with a variety of people in the workplace
- Plan the work and works the plan; ensures that resources and time are available to complete individual tasks
- Evidence of success in being a self-starter
- Strong communication skills - writing, listening, public speaking and presenting
- Computer literacy as demonstrated by evidence of technology use in an educational setting, including, but not limited to program development and delivery, and social media
- Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned county and periodically participate in evening and weekend programs and activities

Minimum Qualifications |
- Must be currently enrolled in the Auburn University College of Agriculture or College of Forestry & Wildlife Sciences
- Minimum GPA of 2.8
- Sophomore year or above
- At least 19 years old
- Applicant must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
- Excellent interpersonal, written, listening and presenting communication skills
- Ability to problem solve independently
- Ability to establish positive relationships with customers and coworkers
- Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people in the workplace

- Interest in Extension as a career
- Previous 4-H or Extension experience
