Summary of Position
The Earth Systems Research Center within the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space is seeking a Research Associate Professor with exceptional skills and extensive background in atmospheric chemistry, Arctic science, education, and community engagement. The successful candidate will be expected to secure external funding (grants and contracts) to investigate complex societal challenges related to atmospheric dynamics and chemistry, climate, and space weather.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
Candidates are required to have expertise with the CESM atmospheric models (including WACCM, WACCM-X, CAM-Chem), or equivalent community developed modeling frameworks. Applicants should also have a strong track record (grants and publications) in Arctic science, particularly how shifting seasonality, changing weather patterns, extreme events, and natural hazards such as earthquakes can impact Arctic ecosystems, infrastructure, and security. Candidates who explore linkages between Arctic change and eastern North America are particularly encouraged.

A demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion ( JEDI) when assembling research teams and engaging community interest-holders is also essential. Training graduate and undergraduate students in technical modeling skills, overseeing independent student research (capstone/thesis/dissertation), and instilling JEDI principals in all research group efforts is required.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Further, experience building collaborations with other researchers and community interest-holders to apply convergent research approach to real problems identified by community partners is highly desired. While research faculty are not required to teach formal classes, the ability to offer occasional courses on atmospheric sciences/convergent research/engaged scholarship will be considered positive.
