THE POSITION

The Department of Revenue, Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA), is seeking a motivated Field Enforcement Agent 1 with a keen eye for precision to work in the field and conduct investigations of businesses and individuals suspected of violating motor and alternative fuels taxes, business taxes, and cigarette and other tobacco taxes. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will assist experienced agents in the field in order to gain technical experience and skill in conducting criminal and tax investigations of businesses and individuals. Responsibilities include learning and implementing collection techniques and procedures such as the explanation of tax rules, regulations, reporting requirements, remittance obligations, and penalties for non-compliance, and enforcing compliance of the tax laws and regulations for all taxes administered under BETA through the collection of delinquent taxes and missing returns.

Specific duties include conducting detailed inventory of confiscated goods, products, and property, and assisting with interviewing witnesses and suspects to obtain information. You will conduct surveillance of suspected persons or locations, examine and analyze all information and records, prepare reports and evidence for presentation to prosecuting officials, make arrests, and execute searches pursuant to court ordered warrants.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time, home-headquartered employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • The selected candidate will be assigned to the Northeast Philadelphia Office, located at 3240 Red Lion Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in Chester County.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
