THE POSITION

Are you driven to help young people with disabilities as they prepare for the future they want to achieve! As a Dormitory Counselor for the Hiram G. Andrews Center within the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Center Operations you will have the unique opportunity to help our students prepare to succeed in the workforce and in life by providing counseling and support as part of our inter-disciplinary teams. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will counsel students in residence halls on issues related to interpersonal skills and independent living, and social interactions. This includes monitoring and maintaining a safe and supportive environment in residence halls, orienting new students to residential life, and addressing appropriate behavior and violations of the Code of Conduct with advice and compassion.

Responsibilities also include advising students on issues impacting residential life, such as hygiene and grooming, the condition of dorm rooms, and recreational activities, as well as assisting students with punctuality, conflict resolution, stress management, and other soft skills in preparation for employment. Additionally, you will serve as an internal first responder during emergencies and transport or accompany student to off-campus activities. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work Schedule is rotational across 3 shifts, primarily 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM with a 30-minute lunch, with the option to bid for other shifts based on seniority.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in working with school age children (aged 6 to 21)* or adults in an organized physical, recreational, educational, or related program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • All qualifying experience must consist of working with school age children (aged 6 to 21).

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    1. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
