Basic Function

LyondellBasell is searching for an Instrument Maintenance Technician for the new Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene (LIP) Joint Venture Olefins and Derivatives Plant located in Lake Charles, LA. The Instrument Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Instrumentation throughout the LIP complex.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal, state, and site environmental regulations
  • Promotes the maintenance culture of valuing and empowering all individuals across the site
  • Promotes the maintenance culture of doing quality work on the right piece of equipment at the right time efficiently
  • Responds to tasks as directed by supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units
  • Applies technical expertise to participate in the installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all instrumentation

    • Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding
    • Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency
    • Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment
    • Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards
    • Working with equipment owners to complete tasks in a safe and timely manner
    • Updating supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work
    • Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system


  • Identifies issues and problems not only related to instrumentation, but also on the associated systems to assist in providing solutions that ultimately help the department improve overall equipment availability
  • Identifies and implements reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams
  • Participates on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the work place environment
  • Ensures all work is completed in compliance with NFPA 70 and 70E
  • Reports proper amount of post job data in the proper system such as Work Order as found / as left, Plan Improvement Feedback, Job Confirmation, etc.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings such as Loop sheets ,P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Desire to work in a team environment and contributes to team by accomplishing individual and team tasks
  • Willingness to work across craft lines and multi-craft with other disciplines as needed
  • Willingness to flex to other crews as needed to meet schedule requirements
  • Ability to work flexible work hours, including overtime, call outs and shift as needed
  • Willingness to rotate job assignments as well as perform other tasks as requested by supervision
  • Desire for excellence and continual improvement as an individual and for the team
  • Desire to safely perform essential job functions
  • Willingness to be flexible with job responsibilities, learn new skills, take on challenges & seek information from others

Min. Qualifications

Education and Work Experience



  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Minimum qualifications and experience are preferred to be one of the following:

    • Degree through recognized Trade School, Certification (NCCER, NICET, NETA, ISA, Relevant Military) or Equivalent and 3 years' relevant experience
    • Or Associate's Degree in discipline and 2 years' experience
    • Or Bachelor's Degree in Discipline and 1 year of experience


  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician with knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods is preferred



Languages:English, additional language preferred

  • Computer skills (i.e. Typing, SAP knowledge, etc.)

  • High personal motivation and ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, independently or through a team process
