The Experimental Economics Center (ExCEN)
The Langdale Chair and Professor will provide leadership to the Experimental Economics Center, a center that supports research and teaching by providing research infrastructure for laboratory experiments as well as field and online experiments. ExCEN is supported by administrative and IT staff positions. ExCEN facilities include the main lab with 40 subject terminals, six breakout rooms for small group experiments, equipment for eye tracking experiments, a control room, and a subject sign-in room. The center's central objective is to promote economics and related academic disciplines as empirical science.
The Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at Georgia State University is nationally recognized for its research, teaching, and service in economics and policy analysis. The department offers a range of degree programs at all levels, including the Bachelor of Science in Economics, Master of Arts in Economics, Ph.D. in Economics, and a variety of interdisciplinary programs. The department is home to a large group of 29 full-time faculty members who are internationally known for their research on public, labor, health, urban and environmental, and experimental economics. Faculty regularly collaborate with major research centers at the Andrew Young School, such as the Public Finance Research Cluster, the Georgia Policy Labs, and the Georgia Health Policy Center as well as the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, positioning the department as a leader in addressing key societal issues through applied research. The department's commitment to experiential learning ensures that students engage with real-world policy challenges through internships, community-based projects, and public service, preparing them to become effective leaders across all sectors.

The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is one of the nation's leading policy schools dedicated to addressing critical social and economic challenges through interdisciplinary research and policy. The school is composed of diverse academic units, including the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, Department of Economics, Department of Public Management and Policy, School of Social Work, and Urban Studies Institute. Position Description |
The Department of Economics of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University invites applications for the Noah Langdale, Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor. In collaboration with the Georgia Research Alliance, this endowed chair position will provide the Professor with generous resources to advance the field of experimental economics and provide leadership to the Experimental Economics Center (ExCEN). The Professor will join an elite group of Eminent Scholars across the state of Georgia dedicated to advancing university research and entrepreneurship. The Eminent Scholar position will offer an initial term of five years and may be renewable upon successful evaluation.
Candidates must have an exceptional record of published research and contributions to economics as empirical science. They must have an established national and international reputation for excellence in leadership of the field. Preference will be given to candidates whose research exhibits a close integration of experimental methods with theoretical modeling. A record of success in obtaining sponsored funding is important, as is the ability to mentor graduate students. Secondary areas of preference that candidates might contribute to include environmental economics and public economics.
As a leader in the Andrew Young School renowned for its influence on public policy, the Langdale Chair and Professor will contribute to shaping the future of economics education and research and drive strategic initiatives that align with the university's commitment to student success, innovation, and engaged research. The position offers extensive opportunities to collaborate with public, nonprofit, private, and philanthropic organizations in Atlanta and beyond, where alumni and partners are deeply engaged in creating positive change in their communities. With access to world-class research centers, cutting-edge facilities, and a supportive cohort of thought leaders across the university, the Langdale Chair and Professor will have the tools and resources to drive innovation in economics and policy.
The Langdale Chair and Professor will join other new leaders at Georgia State University during a pivotal point in the institution's history. In 2021, Georgia State welcomed Dr. M. Brian Blake as the university's eighth president, and in 2023, Dr. Nicolle Parsons-Pollard was appointed Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. In 2024, Dr. Thomas J. Vicino joined the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies as its eighth dean. The Langdale Chair will have a unique opportunity to define and implement new initiatives informed by the strategic plan Blueprint to 2033: Our Place, Our Time.
Qualified candidates should have a record of publications and sponsored research appropriate for tenure and appointment at the rank of Professor at Georgia State University. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related discipline. Candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
This position is located on the Atlanta campus of Georgia State University and requires in-person, on campus-based work. The Andrew Young School maintains a flexible work environment. This position is planned to begin August 2025. |

- Ability to work with research centers on external grants to support research, teaching, and

experimental economics
- Experience with developing, maintaining, and expanding relationships with government and
community partners; and
- Familiarity with management of funds to support student and faculty success.
- Demonstrated record of academic leadership; and
- Teaching and student mentoring experience.
