Job Summary:



The Sussel lab performs research related to pancreatic islet cell development and function in mouse models of diabetes. The person hired into this position will be expected to function as the lab manager by overseeing daily operations related to research and lab operations, including supervision of junior PRA, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. They will also assist with ordering supplies, maintenance of lab resources, and general lab organization. They will be expected to develop and manage their own research project in discussion with the lab PI, Lori Sussel. They will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, write manuscripts pertaining to their research and apply for grant funding when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Train and supervise PRAs and student workers
  • Order supplies/reagents
  • Oversee daily lab operations.
  • Establish and run a research program and be able to evaluate and interpret their results in the context of the literature
  • Participate in lab meetings and critically evaluate their own research and the research of the lab.
  • Write grants and manuscripts
  • Assist with graduate training
  • Learn and implement new research techniques as necessary



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • PhD in the regenerative medicine field with a minimum of 4 years postdoctoral experience in diabetes and stem cell research.
  • Minimum of 3 first author publications
  • Evidence of collaborative research (co-author publications)
  • Experience with human stem cell models of pancreas development and/or diabetes
  • Experience with microscopy, histology, molecular biology


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with presenting data at local and national meetings
  • Desire to pursue independent funding
  • Desire to train and supervise graduate students and PRAs


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of pancreatic islet biology, diabetes and stem cell biology
  • Evidence of scholarship in the field of pancreas biology (ie. First author publications)
  • Proficient in molecular biology, cell biology, mouse embryology, microscopy, histology
  • Ability to think critically and develop hypothesis driven questions related to the field of diabetes
  • Able to multi-task
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$65,000-$70,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
