About the Job

Job description:
Write a brief description of your lab, department, and/or research focus.
The University of Minnesota is seeking a postdoctoral trainee to carry out mentored and independent research related to our ongoing chronic pain. Our lab is focused on understanding the peripheral and central drivers of chronic pain, with emphasis on back pain, intervertebral disc degeneration, the prefrontal cortex and epigenetics. The successful candidate will benefit from the UMN's strengths in pain research, neuroscience and musculoskeletal biology; all of these groups offer regular seminars, journal clubs and social/networking events.

Responsibilities:
* Planning, execution, analysis, documentation and communication of novel research related to chronic pain (80%).
* Regular attendance and participation at lab meetings and relevant seminars and journal clubs (10%).
* Informal mentoring of other members of the research group (5%).
* Contribute to data and lab management (5%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* PhD in health sciences or related field
* 3+ years experience in biological sciences laboratory (can be concurrent with PhD)

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience and expertise relevant to neuroscience, musculoskeletal biology, pain research or genetics/epigenetics/transcriptomics.
* Experience working with preclinical models
* Experience in one or more of following methods: in vivo behavior, small animal surgery, RNA, DNA, protein extraction and measurement, cell culture, histology, immunofluorescence.
* Experience analyzing, graphing and interpreting research results
* Experience with oral and written communication of scientific results
* Mentoring and leadership potential
* Familiarly with graphpad prism and R

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 - $74,088; depending on education/qualifications/experience
