About the Job
This research position is within the Translational Center for Resuscitative Trauma Care, in the vascular biology laboratory of Dr. Eric Wise. Our mission is to develop and evaluate innovative, effective acute trauma care from point of injury through early post-injury in austere, low resource, rural, and emergency care settings. We gather our tissue via large animal modeling, and seek a researcher with unique animal management skills to help manage our surgical procedures and work in the "wet lab." Create a multidisciplinary, translational research center that brings together trauma and emergency care research across the state of Minnesota and develops faculty and trainee research careers.

This position supports pre-clinical research within the Center, funded by the Department of Defense. It is expected that the person in this position work independently with minimal guidance from the supervisor.

Responsibilities:
(70%) Conduct experiments using animal and human samples and associated data. Extensive sample
analysis is required. Collect data for pre-clinical and clinical date.
* Primarily: Muscle bath physiology experiments
* Animal (pig) procedure management
* RT-PCR
* ELISA
* Additional analyses as needed
* Large and small animal studies with support of Experimental Surgery team
* Troubleshoot technical problems
* Evaluate new and developing models
* Use basic statistical methods to analyze data
* Independently present findings to research team
* Train and access performance of graduate and medical students
* Participate in surgical procedures involving large animals

(25%) Data Analysis and Management
* Perform data entry and maintains detailed records of experiments and procedures
* Generate and disseminates experiment reports
* Manage sample repository

(5%) Additional duties
* Works under general supervision with ongoing R&D operations as time allows
* Other duties as required

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required qualifications:
* BA/BS degree plus at least five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least nine years
* Previous experience in a research setting
* Must be able to stand at a laboratory bench or hood for extended periods of time and lift up to
40 lbs.
* Must be willing to work in a large animal OR; must have experience in large animal
management, including husbandry, drug administration to animals (primates), working with
IACUC, and performing procedures.
* Must be willing to take an occasional overnight shift
* Must have supervisory experience in animal management

Preferred qualifications:
* MS or higher, with 2 years of related in a biological lab, or a related field of science
* Interest in biomarker and/or pre-clinical research
* Familiarity with vascular biology and/or muscle/organ bath use
