The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at the University of California San Francisco is a world-class research facility focused on understanding and developing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. The Kampmann lab in the IND develops and uses innovative technologies to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of human diseases, and to discover new therapeutic strategies. A major focus of our research is on neurodegenerative diseases. We are an interdisciplinary group of postdocs, graduate students and staff. This position is for a full-time (100%) Lab Assistant 2 in a BSL-2 lab working on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. The Lab Assistant will be trained to follow specific procedures for the maintenance of the BSL-2 labs. Some time will be spent attending lab meetings/journal club meetings.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $21.47 - $25.29 (Hourly Rate).

This position is for a full-time (100%) Lab Assistant 2 in a BSL-2 lab working on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Required Qualifications


  • High school graduation and two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college, including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Basic computer knowledge required
  • Good communication skills required
  • Previous lab experience
  • Previous experience using large autoclaves preferred
  • Previous experience working in a BSL-2 environment preferred
  • Physical demands: requires sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, waist twisting, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching up to shoulder height, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs., fine finger manipulation, gross manipulation, simple grasp/power, repetitive hand/arm use; exposure to loud noise, fumes or gases, latex; ability to differentiate color, verbal communication, use of protective equipment.
