Job Description

Job Overview: The University of Missouri's Division of Research, Innovation & Impact is seeking an experienced and organized Plant Growth Facility (PGF) Coordinator to manage the daily operations of our plant growth spaces. This role will involve space management, facility use training, compliance oversight, and the development of facility policies. The PGF Coordinator will serve as a primary contact for various campus entities, oversee pest management programs, and supervise personnel to ensure smooth operation of greenhouse (GH) and growth chamber (GC) facilities.

Key Responsibilities--

Space Management & User Training:

  • Conduct facility tours for potential users to identify space needs, assign greenhouse spaces, and coordinate space use across multiple locations.
  • Oversee space allocation for teaching and research, manage facility cleaning and repairs, and coordinate shared equipment use.
  • Develop user policies, conduct orientation and training sessions, and process access requests to ensure policy compliance.

Campus Coordination:

  • Act as liaison with Campus Facilities, Police, Fire Dept., and Environmental Health & Safety on security, safety, and maintenance matters.
  • Represent PGF in design and construction projects for new growth facilities, including collaboration with contractors and equipment testing.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM):

  • Advise users on pest control, manage pesticide applications, and implement biocontrol methods for pest management.
  • Conduct Worker Protection Standards training, maintain pesticide inventory, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Hire, train, and supervise an IPM Coordinator to support pest control initiatives.

Environmental Control & Data Management:

  • Oversee and adjust environmental conditions to meet research needs, monitor control systems, and provide data as requested.
  • Serve as the 24/7 primary contact for emergency alarms within the greenhouse.

Supervision:

  • Hire, train, and evaluate IPM and maintenance personnel, as well as student workers.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to address repair priorities and minimize research interruptions.

Fiscal Management:

  • Inventory and order supplies, monitor budgets, track spending, and manage greenhouse user fees to maintain a balanced budget.

Technical Support:

  • Assist users with specialized plant growth systems, perform solution testing, and troubleshoot equipment with maintenance staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage gravel drive and parking lot maintenance, handle shipment deliveries, and oversee weed control efforts around facilities.

Monday- Friday 8 am- 5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in greenhouse or plant growth facility management.
  • Strong background in pest management, environmental control systems, and equipment maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of plant science research practices and facility safety regulations.
  • Public pesticide applicator license preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.50 - $34.18 per hour
Grade: GGS 008
