General Counsel Office Job Description
The University of Missouri System, located in Columbia, Missouri, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of attorney in the Office of the General Counsel. This position will be based in the Office of the General Counsel in Columbia, Missouri and will report directly to the General Counsel. The University of Missouri System consists of four academic campuses located in Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, and the University Health System. The System has more than 75,000 students and 24,000 employees. Responsibilities for this position include general representation of the University in a variety of areas, with particular emphasis on charitable gift law (including outright gifts of all types, deferred gifts under the Internal Revenue Code, donor restrictions, cy press actions, trusts, wills, and the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act), and contract review. This attorney also will contribute to the other legal work of the office, including training for University personnel on a range of topics and performing additional responsibilities assigned by the General Counsel. To perform the job successfully, an individual should have a broad range of skills along with the knowledge and experience to; advise a public charity on all issues related to acceptance and administration of gifts, including all types of outright gifts and deferred gifts under the Internal Revenue Code, endowment administration, and litigation pertaining to gifts, wills and trusts; draft and review general contracts and other legal agreements; assist in proceedings and transactions that deal with gifts, trusts and wills; and assist other attorneys in the office in their representation of the University on a variety of matters. A Juris Doctor or LLB degree from an ABA accredited law school and at least 8 years of experience with a significant specialized experience in at least one area. License to practice law in Missouri or eligible for admission to the Missouri Bar. Preferred Qualifications
At least 8 years' experience is preferred with knowledge of federal, state and local laws. The candidate must have a law degree and be in good standing with all bars or bar associations and no prior disciplinary matters. Admission to Missouri Bar or eligibility for admission by reciprocity is necessary. At least eight years' experience is preferred with knowledge of federal, state and local laws, in particular those relating to the above-stated areas of law. Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $165,000 - $205,000 per year Benefit Eligibility
