DESCRIPTION

The new Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to health and social equity and has over 80 primary salaried faculty, 25 secondary faculty, 200+ personnel, 200 postgraduate students, and 550 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the Public Health disciplines of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity, Public Mental Health, and Environmental and Climate Health. The School administers two PhD programs (Public Health and Biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, an MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UCSD Extension, and a Preventive Medicine residency program. The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Wireless and Population Health Systems, Health Promotion and Equity, Women's Health, and Tobacco Control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UCSD and external customers, and the School's faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

In collaboration with the community and department, this role will support, educate and work with Asylum seekers. Duties include but are not limited to making rounds with clinical providers, assisting with management of patients and patient data collection, medical scribing, and medication inventory. Employee may also act as lead for clinical health workers during shifts and provide administrative support. The Shift Lead is a key member of the clinical team at the Asylum Seekers Shelters, providing daily continuity and facilitating communication to over 25 different licensed providers and healthcare students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of using computer software applications including word processing and database applications and email. Accurate computer word-processing and database/data entry skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle and process patient samples following SOPs. Knowledge to comply with protocol regarding biosafety/universal precautions.

  • Familiarity with SOPs. Ability to read and follow protocols.

  • Ability to accurately collect, record, transcribe and synthesize data.

  • Demonstrated ability to display consistent accuracy with great attention to fine details.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and meet ever changing priorities and timelines.

  • Capacity to work efficiently in a team environment with excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge and proficiency of Teams, Word and Excel.

  • Ability to interact with a large variety of physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients in a professional and pleasant manner.

  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and communicate verbally and in writing with staff and physicians with professionalism, sensitivity and discretion.

  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills (using grammatically correct written English and accurate typing) to interact with a variety of personalities at all levels of the organization, exercising tact, mature judgment, diplomacy, and flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness. Skill at negotiating with various personalities and developing internal and external network of contacts. Excellent phone etiquette skills.

  • Theoretical knowledge in a biological life science or related discipline or equivalent education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical data.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with large central databases.

  • Knowledge to comply with COVID-19 safety procedures regarding biosafety/universal precautions for processing patient samples.

  • Familiarity in reviewing large data sets and/or processing and maintaining data.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
