The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Annually, the Human Resource Processing Center at Columbia University processes over 75 million transactions across 90 different payroll functions (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly), including hires, rehires, promotions, transfers, and terminations, totaling $2.7 billion.

Reporting to the Director of HRIS, the Manager, HRPC Transactions, is responsible for overseeing the triage and review of transactions in Columbia University's PeopleSoft platform, guiding staff in resolving issues, and maintaining electronic files. The role collaborates with both internal and external teams to ensure efficient payroll processes, identify improvements, and develop solutions for transaction accuracy and workflow. The incumbent also works with the Data Integrity team to ensure system data quality and provides staff training as needed, while supervising and coaching an Assistant Manager and two Transaction Coordinators.

Responsibilities



  • Responsible for triaging and reviewing all transactions; guides staff in identifying incomplete or incorrect paperwork that requires further information and communicates with departments as needed to clarify or request additional documentation. Creates and maintains electronic files for priority work.
  • Collaborates with internal and external HRPC units on the scheduling and timing of payrolls (weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly) to ensure an even workflow that meets all payroll deadlines. Participates in process improvement meetings with HR, Benefits, and Payroll teams, identifying solutions to improve transaction efficiencies while adhering to University policies. Collaborates with Payroll, Benefits, and other HR team members to recommend and develop internal processes and reports that monitor data quality, verification, and clean-up.
  • Works with the Data Integrity team to identify new HRPC audit reports that ensure data integrity in PeopleSoft. Reviews existing audit reports to correct or update errors in the system, reducing payroll or batch processing errors.
  • As the subject matter expert, partners with the HR System Training team to create training for various PeopleSoft modules, including, but not limited to, Template-Based Hire/Rehire, eTermination, Tax setup, Citizenship/Visa, Person Profiles (education, tenure, bio-demo data), Time & Labor, Absence Management, and I-9 verification. Provides staff training as needed.
  • Reviews and resolves issues escalated to Tier 2, conducts research, and resolves problems. Assists HR Service Center analysts by providing information to close out tickets at the Tier 1 level.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree required and 4-6 years of related experience, preferably in an HR or Payroll environment that includes supervisory responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressured, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: team management, teamwork, analytical thinking, and client/customer awareness.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be precise and attentive to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with PeopleSoft or other ERP system required.
  • Experience with process management/improvement preferred.
