Job Summary
Under the guidance of the Director of International and Academic English, the Program Coordinator co-designs and delivers academic programs to students that enhance academic success through group, one-on-one, and course-based formats to meet international student needs. These programs (1) support international students' ability to communicate and find community on campus, and (2) create learning opportunities for the campus related to intercultural understanding and communication. IAE delivers the Pal Program (focused on intercultural exchange and communication between undergraduate students), the Summer Start Program (focused on helping incoming international first years adjust to university life in the U.S.), the Language & Culture Coaching Program (focused on helping international TAs develop language skills needed to teach in U.S. classrooms), and the Test of Oral English Proficiency (designed to evaluate graduate students' eligibility toward meeting the campus language requirement for TAs). The IAE Program Coordinator supports these programs by Independently providing advising services and guidance for international and multilingual students, designing and delivering events and programming to support learning outcomes, coordinating with other campus departments to offer wrap-around support, developing and evaluating outcomes for program offerings, designing and implementing processes and tools, hiring and supervising student staff, and communicating with students, potential students and campus partners. - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience advising students in higher education.
- Experience working and communicating with students from different cultural backgrounds who speak different languages and have varying levels of English proficiency.
- Experience managing programs and educational opportunities for learners from different cultural backgrounds who speak different languages and have varying levels of English proficiency.
- Experience organizing and processing student applications.
- Experience with creating, organizing and maintaining records for retrieval while assuring the security of confidential data.
- Interpersonal oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population, converse with persons with limited English ability and convey instructions, directions and information appropriately.
- Project and time management skills to organize and manage multiple simultaneous projects independently with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite for Windows (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters in TESOL, Linguistics, Education or related social sciences degree.
- Experience working with faculty, administrators, and staff within a university setting.
- Experience studying or living outside of the United States and working in an area where English is not the primary language spoken.
- Experience with communication plans, social media and networking.
- Experience teaching, mentoring and assessing students' oral English language proficiency
- Experience with UC Davis and UC Davis course registration processes and systems, such as Schedule Builder, Oasis and Banner.
- Leadership and decision-making skills to evaluate program and student needs
- Knowledge of campus and community resources.
