Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Residential Dining Commons General Manager, the Assistant General Manager, Residential Dining (AGM) is responsible for assisting in the oversight of a Residential Dining Commons. This position is responsible for providing excellent quality products in a safe and aesthetically pleasing dining environment. Responsible for developing and implementing accountability controls of staff to ensure maximum operational efficiency and effective of implemented programs. Responsible for serving up to 7,000 meals per week, the AGM will manage the residential dining operation to ensure department business needs are met, service and financial goals are attained, and to make recommendations for improvements. Assures that service and product offerings meet campus needs in cost efficient manner. Provide leadership and mentorship to the dining services team and monitor adherence to service and quality standards. This position is responsible for managing cash handling policies and procedures. Manage daily staffing and labor schedules, and guest service standards. Access and audit reports weekly, monthly, and annually to ensure budgetary goals are met and are on track. Assist the Residential Dining Commons General Manager in implementing the departmental vision. In partnership with the Unit Executive Chef, support daily operations including, employee scheduling, inventory management, menu execution, promotional marketing opportunities, staff safety, and equipment and facility maintenance. The primary emphasis of this position focuses on business management practices (i.e. operations management, financial controls, human resource managements, interdepartmental relations, and research and development, project management, menu/product change management, and monitoring vendor relationships.) This position is responsible for providing excellent quality products in a safe and aesthetically pleasing dining environment. Responsible for implementing accountability controls of staff and working closely with staff to ensure maximum operational efficiency and effective of implemented programs. This position is responsible for managing cash handling policies and procedures, display and merchandising expectations, schedule writing, and customer service. Implement operational objectives and initiatives and seeks/provides resources to meet schedules and goals. Establish and assures adherence to budgets, work plans and performance requirements. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may have campus-wide impact, including campus policy audits and facility inspections.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with 2 years minimum of Food Service Management and the option of a Bachelor's degree in hospitality related fields.
  • Experience in management in a dining service field.
  • Experience with industry standards for dining services including PCI compliance, Point of Sale maintenance, managing cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Experience managing financials, labor, food handling and storage policies and procedures, quality control, health and safety standards.
  • Accounting experience in managing operating budgets with short and long-range financial forecasts.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying backgrounds and perspectives to research and secure information to resolve problems.
  • Writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in a residential food service environment.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting and applying personnel policy and procedure, collective bargaining agreements and employment law, advising management and managing sensitive employee and labor relations problems.
  • Experience using computerized systems, including food production/procurement systems, electronic customer access, and time-keeping programs.
  • Knowledge of related Federal, State, Local, and UC regulations.
