JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Biology, in the Eberly College of Science, has part-time openings for a Federal Work Study-Research Lab Assistant to work in the Vandegrift research lab within the department this academic year. The Research Assistant performs a variety of duties: Assist in the completion of a USDA funded effort to better describe the host range and viral diversity of SARS-CoV-2 in non-human mammals. They will be expected to set and check traps, record data for animal handlers, label tubes, autoclave supplies, and eventually/hopefully collect samples themselves. They will also help in the lab by doing dissections, organizing samples and assisting theresearch technician in the completion of tasks. This is a rain or shine (mostly) fieldwork position that requires early mornings, late evenings, and some weekend work. It is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of disease ecology and epidemiology and will look great on your resume. Students who received a Federal Work Study award have the opportunity to obtain a job and perform related duties either on campus, or remotely, if possible and at the discretion of the employer. Students applying for Federal Work Study positions should clarify expectations with their potential employer regarding either on campus/in person or remote work arrangements.
