Overview
The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an AOT Area Maintenance Supervisor II position to lead and supervise the Capital Region District 6 Bridge team in Middlesex. This position is responsible for leading a small team of employees in general maintenance duties related to bridge repair and maintenance. Additional responsibilities may include operating specialized winter plowing equipment and treating roads with winter materials. Other duties may include maintenance and supervisory work on roads, state-owned assets, and related properties. The Supervisor will enforce proper safety practices and train employees accordingly. Candidates should have strong leadership skills, strong communication abilities as well as considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in transportation maintenance activities. Environmental Factors
Duties require the ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions. Incumbents are required to be available for considerable overtime during periods of heavy snowfall, or other emergency situations. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and must be reachable by phone. Incumbent may have a higher level of traveling outside of their assigned work location due to the nature of this position. Employees must be able to use tools and lift materials commonly used in routine maintenance work. Normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment, in high traffic areas, hazardous materials, and debris from roadside litter are present. May be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Hazards are always present when working on roads with moving traffic. Incumbents may be required to work in high places. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required, may also have a higher level of involvement in scheduling random tests when filling in for their Transportation General Maintenance Manager. Overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) or more years of highway maintenance or construction experience INCLUDING BOTH two (2) or more years of supervisory experience or as a crew leader AND one (1) season or more of operating a snowplow with a wing. OR Two (2) years as a Transportation Operations Technician II or higher. CDL Application Requirements
