Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College is hiring a Student Services Specialist (Success Coach) to work under the Learning College philosophy (https://www.paradisevalley.edu/community/learning-centered-college), where learning happens anytime, anyway, any place. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaboratively onboarding new and undecided students. This position will work with recruitment, advising, the one-stop center, student life, college navigators, and peer leaders to smoothly welcome students to support their academic and career goals with a smooth first-year experience at PVCC. Specifically, assisting with recruitment events and developing online tools, messages, and activities to support first-year student success. Throughout the year, advising students on goal setting, occupational degrees, certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, testing (placement and programmatic), registration, academic progress, and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree completion. ... Student Service Specialist Senior (Success Coach) coordinates, administers and implements student academic advisement programs by providing operational planning, program management, and evaluation, direct student service delivery, as well as problem-resolution, and technical assistance.

Essential Functions

50%-Designs and implements onboarding messaging, virtual onboarding, and in-person events to support students' first-year experience. Provides & updates materials related to FYE course content, FOI options, career exploration tools, student resources, and degree & certificate information. Advises exploring students 1:1 and/or in groups and by various modalities including but not limited to in-person and virtually (video, email, chat, and phone). Assists students with career and major exploration, develops comprehensive multi-semester academic plans, monitors student progress & milestones, and timely completion and transfer. Maintains, tracks, and reports data on assigned caseloads and as assigned by the department supervisor. Monitors enrollment, academic progress, retention, and completion of assigned students. Works as the primary advising contact for new and incoming students and provides regular communication through enrollment nudges and just-in-time student success support.

25% - Handles more complex student concerns and responds to escalated student/parent complaints, as assigned. Responsible for advanced advising functions and processing, including program plan changes, unofficial transcript evaluations, reviewing and applying academic policies as they relate to graduation eligibility, and reviewing & processing graduation documents. Evaluate and process joint advisement and financial aid documents and data by applicable federal regulations and compliance. May advise specialty programs requiring specific program admissions criteria and designs and deliver related orientations, information sessions, and/or group presentations. Utilizes, maintains, and updates student databases and records systems and performs more complex SIS functions. Documents advising sessions and student correspondence through Advising Notes are in the student record database. Follows Academic Advisement department practices and templates. May consult with FOI Analyst, faculty, and/or other departments to resolve or respond to student barriers.

10% Identifies support resources for students and makes appropriate referrals. Actively collaborates with the CARE team and Student Life regarding awareness campaigns and events regarding these resources to students. Provides work direction and coaching to peer leaders. Actively collaborates with recruitment, advising, one-stop, student life, and CARE teams. Acts as a department liaison or representative on college and district committees and special events and works with external partners as assigned.

10% Overseeing the navigators. Navigators connect with students via the Puma Pre-Advising, the enrollment Dashboard, via phone, email, or walk-ins. Additionally, Navigators are the initial point of contact for all students and will triage and provide a warm transfer to the department or area the student needs to connect with. Navigators play a crucial role, acting as liaisons for all students, guiding them through the intricacies of PVCC and Maricopa processes, regardless of their interests. Navigators stay with the student through their first semester (to be expanded to the first year once the program entirely runs). Once students complete their first semester, they are handed over to their FOI Analyst.

5% Duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
2. One (1) or more years of experience providing academic advisement at a college
3. Experience with first-year experience programs and/or orientation in a college setting
4. Knowledge of assessment and evaluation tools
5. One (1) or more years of experience with collaborative projects
6. Experience leading and managing projects, workflow, and training student staff
7. Knowledge of student case management needs and proficiency in using software such as Microsoft Office
Suite and Google Suite, Peoplesoft, SIS
