SUMMARY

Performs instrumentation, electrical, and analyzer related work assignments for the Instrument, Electrical & Analyzer Department based on formal job requests from the Production Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Racks in/out up to 480-volt switchgear.
  • Repairs and inspects high/low voltage electrical wiring and systems
  • Removes and installs electrical fuses up to 480 volt and below power transmission equipment and motor starter overload devices.
  • Removes and installs air supply solenoids on control valves.
  • Connects/disconnects 480-volt starters, electrical wire to terminals on pumps, motor operated valves, light fixtures and wall switches.
  • Performs loop checks for process field instrumentation.
  • Locates and corrects electrical problems on equipment such as actuator valves, solenoids, electrical control circuits and control panels.
  • Takes amp readings for electrical motors and high/low voltage power supplies to equipment.
  • Removes, calibrates and installs transmitters such as pressure, flow, temperature, level and other instrumentation.
  • Performs calibration of instruments such as emergency shutdown valves, process control valves, etc.
  • Removes and installs electrical breakers, relays, etc.
  • Makes voltage test on instrumentation such as transmitters and controllers.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspection on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Disassembles repairs and reassembles automatic valve actuators.
  • Locates and corrects problems with instrumentation such as DCS, panel switches, control valves, transmitters, etc.
  • Removes, install and replaces electrical lighting and fixtures.
  • Requests supplies, spare parts and material from the Warehouse.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, etc., pipe, conduit, and tubing.
  • Performs hot work on control circuits, high/low voltage switchgear, starters, breakers, etc.
  • Makes splices to electrical wiring such as feeder cables, motor leads, control wires, etc.
  • Verifies ladder logic configuration of programmable logic controllers (PLC's).
  • Assist in training of others.
  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of all personnel on site. Whenever appropriate, promptly report Safety, health or Environmental incidents or issues to management so the situation can be corrected. Attend Monthly Safety Meetings to help prevent off site and job accidents.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.

  • Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on projects teams.
  • This position will be required to drive company vehicles from time to time.
  • Provide leadership when needed to safely execute work, which may involve leading teams of Westlake and/or contract personnel.
  • Be active and participate in safety leadership roles, includes volunteering to work with cross functional safety teams, lead safety meetings, and participate in audit teams.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate plus one to two years of additional education in electrical, instrumentation or analyzer schools.
  • Two to five years field experience in Instrument/Electrical field
  • NCCER or Journeymen certification preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Employee may be required to use stairs/elevators and have the ability to occasionally work at elevated heights. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position must take general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, FRC (flame retardant clothing) etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
