A Float Pool RN is primarily responsible for all aspects of direct patient care while maintaining high performance level in quality, service, critical nursing skills and critical thinking. The RN provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice and professional nursing performance in the clinical setting. The position my include floating to MSU, PCU, and ICU. The Float Pool RN must be familiar with and adhere to regulatory standards and Kearney Regional Medical Center policies and procedures. The Float Pool RN will report to the Clinical Resource Manager.

  1. Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  2. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
  3. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  4. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  5. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated quickly and accurately by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  6. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  7. Demonstrates decision making process and ability to recognize priorities and resolve appropriately.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately based upon
  9. ACLS protocol.
  10. Identifies the need to involve other disciplines in the patients care.
  11. Abilit to perform at maximum efficiency without compromising quality care.
  12. Participates in guidance and educational programs.
  13. Maintains an awareness of legal aspects of nursing, including accurate and timely documentation according to standards.
  14. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  15. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures as appropriate.
  16. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
  17. Act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
  18. Monitor coworkers and voice concerns in a constructive manner to minimize errors.
  19. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or current enrollment in BSN program preferred. Two (2) or more years of recent experience in a clinical care, acute care setting preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Current Nebraska Registered Nurse Licensure. Current BLS certification. ACLS certification within 6 months of hire. PALS certification within 6 months of hire. NIHSS Stroke Scale within 6 months of hire.
