As the EHS Specialist, you will support site personnel to manage a comprehensive Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) program for the two local PPG Traffic Solutions facilities in Ennis, TX. The facilities produce various grades of paint for road applications. You will provide leadership, direction and training to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for our associates while ensuring compliance with applicable environment, health, and safety regulations and requirements to minimize current and future risk and liabilities.

You will work with the EHS Director and other functions to develop standardized EHS programs for implementation at all USA and Canada Traffic Solutions facilities. You will report to the EHS functional lead for the PPG Traffic Solutions business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local and PPG requirements and policies.

  • Manage and drive all environmental, health and safety compliance and management system functions and activities.

  • Manage aspects of the EHS training program, including developing effective training materials, delivering instructor led training, training record management and new employee safety training.

  • Drive key safety initiatives including Job Safety Analysis, safety observations, site safety risk assessments, risk mitigation, and Management of Change.

  • Support site management and provide coaching and review of incident investigations and corrective actions through 5-Why and other incident investigation methods.

  • Facilitate internal audits and self-assessments. Assist operations in developing and implementing corrective actions.

  • Assist with administration of workers' compensation program to determine areas for increased training and emphasis on accident prevention.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits.

  • Oversight of the Waste Management Program (Hazardous, Non-Hazardous, Universal).

  • Manage site Process Safety Management (PSM) program.

  • Actively interact with employees and leadership to promote the PPG EHS culture.

  • Provide assistance within the Traffic Solutions business as needed.

  • Maintain communications with the EHS Director and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Science related field.

  • Entry level position; 0-3 years of experience.

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, incident investigation techniques, and safety and environmental education and training.

  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to manage programs.

  • Strong communication, consulting, and influencing skills; effective advisor to management and employees across a variety of issues.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines.

  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
