Description MaineHealth Corporate Summary: This position is responsible for providing operational subject-matter expertise, leadership, oversight, daily management and support for the Health Information Management Department in multiple facilities in the MaineHealth system. This position manages the work of HIM employees involved in document management, deficiency analysis, patient identity, HIM Call Center and release of patient information practices across campuses. The Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures for these functions to effectively meet user and organization needs. Work is performed independently and is reviewed by the Director of Health Information Management through observation and discussion of results achieved. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) 1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred; Associate's degree or 3-4 years relevant work experience normally associated with teh completion of an Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or other business or healthcare related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred. 2. License/Certifications: A RHIT or RHIA preferred or equivalent in education, training or experience plus three (3) years of previous progressive management experience in an HIM department, or other relevant experience. Prior experience training teams and/or leading projects. Requires knowledge of state and federal legal requirements related to health information management and release of information. Successful completion of medical terminology course is required. 3. Experience: See "License/Certifications" 4. Full knowledge of all aspects of health information management operations, pertinent to document management, records processing, scanning, the release of information (including billing, collecting, and processing fees), and medical dictation. 5. Thorough knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO requirements relating to Health Information access, use and disclosure, and clinical documentation standards including knowledge of HIPAA and other privacy standards. Such knowledge is normally acquired through a minimum of 3- 5 years' experience in a Health Information Management Department or in a clinical setting. RHIT or RHIA credentials desired 6. Three to five years of supervisory responsibility that demonstrates the ability to effectively lead a staff of diversified personnel; plan, assign and review the work of others. To do so, strong interpersonal and effective communication skills, verbal and written, are needed. 7. Ability to complete assignments as directed, by demonstrating the capability to choose the best course of action to meet objectives and deliver the results expected. 8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, physician's office staff, subordinates, administrators, supervisors, outside agencies, and all levels of hospital personnel to achieve desired outcomes. 9. Organizational, analytical, facilitation, project management, interpersonal, negotiating, and problem-solving skills. 10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 11. Good judgment and decision-making skills. 12. Proficient in MS Office applications, with an emphasis in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and knowledge of SharePoint and Visio. Working knowledge of current office technology and equipment. 13. Epic/EMR system knowledge and proficiency preferred.
