New York Tech has an 8-member Physics department across two campuses (New York City and Old Westbury) with a growing B.S. in Physics program and diverse faculty research interests including plasma physics, quantum informatics, biophysics, astrophysics, condensed matter physics and high energy theory.

The Physics department seeks candidates for a tenure-track position for an experimental physicist at the Assistant Professor level, starting in August 2025. The faculty member will be based at the Old Westbury campus, but may have the opportunity to teach at the New York City campus as well.



Responsibilities

    Extending the departmental research portfolio to cutting-edge experimental studies.
  • Teaching and developing new undergraduate physics courses offered to physics, engineering, and other majors.
  • Pursuing external funding to support the candidate's research.
  • Involving undergraduate students in research work.
  • Performing service to the university.


Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics or Applied Physics.
  • Postdoctoral experience and experience teaching at the undergraduate level are strongly preferred.
  • Ability to develop and teach courses that enhance existing research areas a plus.
  • The faculty member hired for the position will be an experimental physicist with a record of successful research and a clear research agenda.
  • Candidate will have strong teaching credentials which are adaptable and able to be incorporated into New York Tech's teaching style and philosophy.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.
