NYTech's Office of Information Technology Services seeks a Systems Engineer. The position is to be located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.

The Systems Engineer is a trusted resource who will work collaboratively with NYIT's IT infrastructure and Information Security team to design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain NYIT's systems infrastructure ensuring the availability of production and test systems. This position will contribute to the efforts of safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the enterprise infrastructure across the university.

The incumbent will be required to participate in Systems related workgroups, to cross train members of the systems team and develop support runbooks. The successful incumbent will possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. They will be a team player with the ability to work independently and possess strong analytical and multitasking skills.



Responsibilities

    Maintain the existing Microsoft, Linux, VDI, Backup, Cloud and Systems Infrastructure, provide suggestions on continuous improvements and iterations.
  • Assists in performing hardware implementations, ensure configuration, process, and procedural standards are followed.
  • Standup on prem and cloud POC's.
  • Direct the automation and orchestration of workloads across on-prem and cloudproviders.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology team members to develop secure system automation and monitoring systems.
  • Provide second and third level support for troubleshooting of systems infrastructure and performance issues.
  • Research, analyze, and recommend changes for future system growth by utilizing industry standard monitoring and research tools for core infrastructure solutions.
  • Assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of NYIT's storage and backup solution.
  • Maintain a patching credence for all systems.
  • Mentor colleagues and staff members in usage and administration of existing and new cloud and infrastructure technologies.
  • Development of configuration, process, and procedure standards.


Qualifications

  • BS in computer science, engineering, or other technical discipline. Comparable success and work experience may be considered in lieu of degree Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 recent years' systems engineering experience including management and technology experience with enterprise-level systems, cloud-based services, and endpoint infrastructure support; experience providing IT support in an academic environment is preferred.
  • UNIX/Linux/Microsoft/Apple on-prem and cloud system administration experience required, applicable industry certification(s) are desired. Experience with High Performance Computing is also desired.
  • Windows system administration experience, including Active Directory, Office365 and TEAMS is desired.
  • Hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux/Windows/Apple system and program installation, compilation and configuration as well as enterprise endpoint management tools such as SCCM and JAMF.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language, such as Python, Perl, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Functional knowledge of standards-based networkingapplications.
  • Functional knowledge of account management processes, directory and authentication services (LDAP), as well as DNS, DHCP, HTTP, NFS, SAMBA, CAS, ADFS, SAML, etc.
  • Demonstrated passion for problem solving; strong project management skills and the proven ability to build trust and work well with all levels of management and technical staff are required.
  • Able to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of technical fluency including the ability to explain and document complex technical issues in a way that non-technical and/or inexperienced people may understand; the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all contact levels of the University; the ability to communicate progress/challenges to appropriate personnel effectively.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills as well as active listening skills and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Team player with excellent consulting skills and a fun, but professional presence required.
  • Excellent customer service skills; a high degree of integrity relative to data security and confidentiality of information required.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis is required.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.

USD $110,000.00/Yr.

USD $125,000.00/Yr.
